Refreshing Drinks
I love our recipe because it doesn’t require any fancy ingredients, or special skill, and it makes enough to fill a few cups which will keep the kids happy!
I made this earlier in the day and enjoyed my taste tests but wanted to make sure there was some left for Mr. Olive, so I popped it into the fridge in the blender and simply added another handful of ice and blended when he got home – it tasted just as good as when I mixed it up hours earlier!
I even took what we had left after that and poured it into my Popsicle molds to see if I can make homemade Fudge Pops (I’ll keep you posted!). Edited to add – they were INCREDIBLE! Tasted exactly how I imagined, and were so creamy! Will definitely be doing a separate post on this for the Summer.

It is incredible how just a few simple ingredients combined together can create such a thirst quenching beverage – and believe me I will be trying it with a little splash of vodka for an adult version I can serve during our next backyard BBQ too!
If you just take a look at the picture above you will see why I started drooling as soon as I poured this chocolate mixture into my blender – and if you have ever tried a Frosty (you know, the chocolaty frozen drink from Wendy’s) I can promise that you will never go back after making your own version.

Frequently asked questions
Here are a couple of questions that are asked when people are looking to make Homemade Frozen Hot Cocoa – if you have a question that isn’t answered below please email us or leave a comment so we can answer you!
A rich, smooth and creamy cuppa yum! But really, the chocolate mixture blended with the ice creates a thick slushy drink that is full of chocolate flavor and quenches thirst instantly. It is like drinking your favorite chocolate bar.
With this recipe that is essentially what you are doing – except you are creating your own cocoa mix and blending with milk and ice until smooth. You want to whisk your milk with the cocoa mix before heating – then over medium heat it will melt and create a syrup that you will add an additional 1 cup of milk to before blending. This my friends is how you make your frozen drink!
The easiest answer is to mix it with ice and blend into this slushy drink, but as I mentioned above you can also pour the leftover mix into Popsicle molds and make your very own fudge pops!

Easy Frozen Hot Chocolate Recipe
A delicious Frozen Hot Chocolate recipe that uses cocoa powder, milk, crushed ice and sugar to cool you off on a hot Summer day!
Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups Milk, we used 2%
- 6 tbsp Cocoa Powder
- 7 tbsp Granulated Sugar
- 6 ounces Dark Chocolate, Chopped (works out to about 170g)
- 5 cups Ice Cubes
Instructions
- Mix together sugar, cocoa powder, chopped chocolate and ½ cup of the milk in a medium saucepan (pot).
- Place mixture over medium heat and stir occasionally until a smooth chocolate syrup forms - approximately 3-5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and add in the other 1 cup of milk - stirring with wooden spoon or silicone spatula until smooth.
- Carefully pour mixture into blender with 5 cups ice and pulse to begin breaking up the ice. Once some of the ice has been crushed turn the blender to the on position and blend until thick and smooth.
Notes
If you have a smaller blender you will want to do this in two batches - simply pour half of the chocolate syrup and 2.5 cups of ice and follow the same steps above.
If you like things a little sweeter, just add an additional tbsp of sugar.
