Easy Slow Cooker Meals for Families

Slow cooker meals have always been a family favorite, and for good reason! The set it and forget it method is perfect for busy families during the week, and makes sure you still have a hearty meal on the table for dinner time.

I wanted to share with you some tried and true chicken crock pot recipes for you to add to your Fall line up (or any time of year really!).

There are so many ingredients that can be tossed with chicken to create meals in the crockpot.

You can use diced tomatoes, taco seasoning, garlic powder, green beans, broccoli, bell pepper, heavy cream, lemon juice, soy sauce, minced garlic, cream cheese, chicken broth and so much more!

And if you are wondering what cuts of chicken you can use, that list is also endless. Though one of my favorites is skinless chicken thighs – they are inexpensive and hold so much flavor.

FAQ for Chicken in the Crock Pot

What cut of chicken is best for slow cooker?

The cut of chicken you use will really depend on the recipe you are making, but overall I find the bone-in chicken gives you the best flavor!

That can be either chicken thighs, or chicken breast, heck even chicken legs if you like em. And don’t worry, boneless options are good too.

If using a boneless skinless chicken breast for instance, just be sure to use it in a recipe that has liquid or sauce so it doesn’t become dry.

Can you put raw chicken in the slow cooker?

Raw chicken in the slow cooker is a definite yes!

One of the best parts of making the recipe in the crock pot is that you are allowing it to cook slowly over time, generally in some form of sauce or liquid which the chicken will absorb as it cooks.

Again, keep in mind that if you are using chicken with bones vs boneless chicken that your cooking time will vary. The bone in the chicken will make it take longer to cook, but it will yield more flavor in the end.

Can you slow cook chicken without liquid?

While you can make many recipes without using liquid in the slow cooker, I always prefer to put just a little bit (even just 1/4 cup) to help ensure the ingredients don’t stick to the bottom during cook time.

That being said, the liquid can be from canned tomato, broth, water or even a can of soup.
